What does it look like to stay faithful to Jesus when everything goes wrong? On November 9, 2025, guest speaker Walt Smith of Men of the Word brought the Apostle Paul to life at Little Falls Chapel. Walt Smith, a Falling Waters neighbor, is an ordained minister of 40+ years and an endorsed Assemblies of God chaplain who brings Bible characters to life through dramatic monologues.

A Roman prison cell

The monologue imagines Paul near the end of his life: bruised from beatings, in a cold, dark Roman dungeon, with Luke the physician at his side as he writes to the young pastor Timothy. Even there, Paul says, he still loves Jesus.

From persecutor to preacher

In his own words, Paul tells how he was born in Tarsus and trained as a Pharisee, and how he hunted down followers of “the Way.” He never forgot watching Stephen die, praying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit” (Acts 7:59). Then, on the road to Damascus, a light brighter than the sun and a voice: “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?” (Acts 9:4, KJV). He gave his life to Jesus that day.

Faithful in chains

Paul planted churches, wrote letters and, even in prison, prayed, sang and told the guards chained to him about Jesus. When people felt sorry for him, he told them not to be sorry for him, but for the guards who hadn’t yet met the Savior.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
