When It Hurts Now, But God Isn’t Done Yet (Romans 8:18)

Some days the weight of life feels like too much.

A doctor’s report.
A broken relationship.
Anxiety that won’t turn off.
Bills that don’t care how tired you are.

In those moments, it’s easy to wonder: “Is this it? Is this all my story is going to be?”

Into that question, God gives us this promise:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”
— Romans 8:18 (CSB)

This verse doesn’t pretend your pain isn’t real. It just says it’s not final.

  1. God Acknowledges Our Suffering

The Bible never says, “If you follow Jesus, life will be easy.”

In fact, Romans 8:18 assumes the opposite: “the sufferings of this present time.”
God is honest. There will be seasons of:

Grief and loss

Confusion and waiting

Spiritual battles and discouragement

If you’re in one of those seasons, Scripture isn’t telling you to “get over it.” It’s telling you: God sees it. God names it. God meets you in it.

At Little Falls Chapel, we don’t expect anyone to pretend they’re okay. We want to be a place where you’re allowed to say, “I’m not fine right now,” and still know you’re loved.

  1. Your Pain Is Real, But It’s Not the Whole Story

Paul doesn’t deny our suffering; he compares it.

“…are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”

There is a future glory coming for every person who belongs to Christ—a day when:

Every tear is wiped away

Every broken thing is made right

Every hidden obedience is rewarded

Every scar gets a story of how God carried you through

If you’re in Christ, your story is not “suffering with no purpose.”
Your story is “suffering now, glory later.”

The scale isn’t balanced. It’s lopsided—and the weight of God’s glory will far outweigh the heaviness of what you’re carrying today.

  1. You Don’t Have to Walk Through This Alone

God never designed us to carry life by ourselves.

He gave us His Spirit.
He gave us His Word.
And He gave us His people.

That’s what a church family is supposed to be:
a place where you can bring your burdens, your doubts, your questions, and your wounds—and not be turned away.

At Little Falls Chapel in Falling Waters, WV, we’re a small, Bible-teaching, non-denominational church. We don’t have smoke machines or a big show. But we do have:

People who will pray for you by name

Solid preaching from God’s Word

Time and space to be known and to grow

  1. A Simple Next Step

If Romans 8:18 hits home for you right now, here are two simple ways to respond:

  1. Ask for prayer.
Scroll down and share one thing that’s weighing on your heart. Our church will pray for you this week.
  2. Plan a visit this Sunday.
Join us as we worship, open God’s Word, and remind one another that today’s suffering is not the end of the story.

You are not alone in what you’re facing.
And in Christ, this is not how your story ends.
