In today’s world, it’s easy to place our confidence in things we can see—our jobs, relationships, finances, or even our own abilities. But when those things shift, as they often do, where does that leave us? At Little Falls Chapel, we were reminded this week that true confidence doesn’t come from the temporary things of this world, but from learning to trust in the Lord with all our hearts.
People naturally lean on what feels stable. We trust our family, careers, health, or education. But as life changes, we quickly realize these foundations can be shaken. Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us a better answer:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
This is more than a comforting verse—it’s a life principle. Trusting in the Lord means shifting our confidence from ourselves and the world to God, who never changes.
Confidence rooted in God begins with wisdom. But wisdom isn’t just knowledge or experience. It’s understanding life from God’s perspective and making decisions based on His guidance.
Proverbs 2:6 says:
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Wisdom isn’t something we stumble upon—it’s something we seek through a relationship with God. When we pray, read the Bible, and ask for discernment, God equips us to face life’s challenges with clarity and peace.
Sometimes, trusting God means accepting His correction. Proverbs 3:11-12 tells us that God disciplines those He loves. Just like a parent corrects a child for their growth, God shapes our character through life’s challenges. Instead of resenting these moments, we should see them as proof of His care.
The world promotes self-confidence, but as believers, we’re called to God-confidence. That doesn’t mean we ignore responsibilities or stop planning for the future. It means we recognize that our ultimate security comes from the One who sees the full picture.
When we fully trust in the Lord, we walk through life with a peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). We’re not shaken by sudden changes, and we don’t live in fear of what tomorrow holds.
As our pastor shared, whether you’re facing decisions about health, finances, family, or the future, remember this simple truth: God is in control. He sees what we cannot. Trusting Him isn’t just a Sunday message—it’s a daily choice.
If you’ve been relying too much on your own strength, today is a good day to shift that burden. Pray for wisdom. Open your Bible. Talk to God like the friend He is. And most importantly, rest in knowing that when you trust in the Lord, you have every reason to live with confidence—no matter what comes your way.
